Bulk Email Horror Story

Perhaps you've run across it, but I wanted to report an experience I've just had. I received an e-mail from humor@powertips.com which invited me to put a four-line ad in this marvelous collection of clean jokes sent to all these people on the 'net who just love this stuff.

I spent $52.50 to advertise my www.starseminars.com, and the roof caved in!

Before all the people had gotten the "newsletter" I was getting anti-spam hatemail. And they were calling me on my 800 number, really filled with anger!

I responded to the e-mails, apologizing, relating how I had been fished in, and deleting the lengthy joke text before I sent out my response. I couldn't answer the anonymous 800 calls.

What struck me is the terrible anger some of these people have about spam.

In all of your discussions recently about spam, I never fathomed that there was so much emotion out there, and people who threaten (and probably do) post your 800 number on a website or usegroup so that others can continue to make you sorry you ever dealt with the spamscammers.

The occasional hate calls on my 800 number are still trickling in, and it seems so misguided. I didn't mean to spam, and I definitely won't again, if I could just detect when I am being sandwiched by the dreadful stuff! By the way, for all the hate e-mail, I did not get ONE query or positive response to my ad, so as a marketing tool,
that is one so-called newsletter that doesn't do the job.
